... they have won races that have been quick and short and also races that have been hard and long, gaining many federation positions in all Federations right throughout Australia. When speaking to John Jackson, one of the great stalwarts of the VHA he was telling me about a Red hen he had bought from Steve Lucas , that had the Adonis/Shiraz lines in it in partnership with another top flyer from the VHA , George Vella from the Diamond Valley, this red hen had bred well over 18 Federation positions for these two great fliers, there was more to the story though, John Jackson had also bought a Van Loon from Steve Lucas, and this bird is responsible for more than 20 VHA Federation positions, and these birds youngsters are still producing Federation birds.

I well remember the Syndicate Mealy lines, that were brought in by Steve and others, this line of Janssen set the scene in the VHA, and every week these birds featured in the fed positions for those who had them, these birds are still producing top line birds now for Pioneer Lofts, Vale Bertanus lines all excellent pigeons.

Harly Tranter in his last year of racing in the VHA was racing birds bred down from stock acquired from Steve Lucas , these being the Smeulders lines and also a pair of eggs from top Red pied cock " Peanuts " these birds in the time that Harly had them had turned his loft upside down, he was gaining excellent results in his section and in the Federation [VHA] from the birds that he obtained from Steve, he raced them either straight or crossed, and they just burnt, mind you he was racing against Steve in the Strong Sprinvale club at the time and it was difficult to beat Steve or Carlos Vincente who was also racing many of Steves birds.

There are many fliers both down here in Melbourne or interstate that can vouch for the fine quality of birds introduced by Steve Lucas when he showed the guts to spend his money and import these fine birds into Australia, many many fliers envied his birds, and many bought them and had success with them.

... these birds will fly long and tough ie Golden1 direct bred 5th fed VHA 500ml clocking aprox. 10.20am on the second day (the critics will probably bag this by saying it was a walk home race). "Peanuts" who gained 2nd Fed Launceston 600mpm against 50 knot head winds 8 day birds was a grandson of 'Miss Saigon'. Paddy Otoole and Tony Maslowski both gained top 10 placing in a 2 day 500ml VHA bred off the Van Loons, Marc Tung had a great year when he flew with Joe Furugia flying these Smeulders Van Loons, Les Fentons "Produce "Fed winner and a huge proportion of his fed places bred by Peter Phillips etc etc
I would suggest that you be the judge I travelled round the world 3 times to aquire these bloodlines and Guff purchased the cream while i cannot guarantee they will all breed winners a high percentage will .

... the "Red Pied Hen" is bred from the "Syndicate Mealy cock" (Sire if at least 12 VHA fed spots inc 4th & 6th fed  500 ml plus 6th 700ml) and "Miss Saigon" . Only 2 were ever bred this way. The red cock in Roy Hindsons sale was bred from her brother.

The "Red Pied Hen" is the dam of "Peanuts" who gained 2nd FED Launceston at 600mpm only 8 day birds with 50 knot headwinds across Bass Straight, the next season he won the FED at 240ml (VHA) doing 1700mpm he gained other FED placings and won 5-1sts in the club 16 flyers.

The Red Pied Hen is leaving bucket loads of winners through her line

... another flyer to fly particularly well with these Smeulders Janssens & Raven Vanloons is Les Fenton(VHA) from the birds bred for him by Peter Phillips . His Produce winner last season was bred from a cock he borrowed from Norm Douglas (Golden/Miss saigon lines)

Hi Godfrey,

My name is Robert Sigismundi and im from Canberra. I just wanted to give you some info on offspring from your stock birds.
When Steve Lucas sold all his stock a couple of years ago, i was fortunate to purchase 2 cocks off him.
They were: BB cock AUST 98 16378   and BB cock VHA 99 39700
The first cock is a son of 25112 x 25107 which you now own.
The second is a son of 25150 x 25125 ( Raven/Dynasty line)

The first cock bred me my best sprint bird ever. 7 races, 5 times clocked. Winner of Champagne Race, and many nom races...
The second cock bred: 1st prize Breeders Plate for myself in 2006
                                  2nd Canberra Combine 300 miles
                                  equal 2nd Combine 400 miles

I am taking a break from racing for a couple of years and the two old Van Loon cocks mentioned above are breeding on at a friends place. I will keep you informed on any future success with their offspring.

Best wishes

Robert
